Filed under: KVM — admin @ 12:30 pm

We in the tech world really love our acronyms, but if you’re one of thousands struggling for space with competing computers, there’s only one you should have on your mental speed-dial: Keyboard, Video, Mouse.

A KVM Switch is an easy, portable answer to computer overcrowding. The trick’s in the name – this simple switch allows you to control multiple computers using just one keyboard, monitor and mouse. Whether you’re switching between a PC and netbook, transferring files or simply switching between work and personal computers, the KVM switch takes the hassle out of multitasking.

I used your KVM switch selector and the GCS632U was recommended. I purchased it last weekend and installed it on my system to replace an older unit, non USB. It took some work to get it just working. After turning my systems off that day then attempting to start it again the following day it did not work. I ended up returning it and buying a different manufacturers product.

It took me several hours just to get it working the first day and thought everything was configured. Was I irritated when I found that over night, after the system was powered down, I was back at square 1 and would have to go through the reconfiguration process again. The keyboard is a Logitech Wave model Y-UV90 and a Logitech G9x mouse accessing two Windows 7 systems, one 32bit the other a 64bit OS.

I purchased the unit at Fry’s and should have been concerned when I saw that there were many returned units. Guess I wasn’t the only one who had problems with this product.

Firstly, we apologize that you did not have a good experience with this product.

It is possible that you had a defective unit. If it isn’t defective then you might need to ensure that you are using a native wired mouse and keyboard as wireless devices or any types of converters/adapters are not supported and will not work. Also docking stations or port replicators will interfere with proper KVM functionality and special keys on multimedia keyboards are not supported and will not work.

I purchased a Bluetooth2.1 USB Micro Adaptor from WalMart, Durham, N.C. The unit is O.K., but when it gets to the question of what is your password key, I can’t figure out what to use as the password key.

My objective is to save/store the pictures from my two cell phones to the hard-drive of my IBM/Desk top computer. Would you please offer me some assistance on this matter? Thanks!!! Larry D. Pinnix of Durham, N.C.

    Hello Larry,

    Thank you for choosing IOGEAR!

You will enter the 4 digits provided by your cellphone manufacturer, usually it’s either 1234 or 0000, into your computer.

In rare cases, you will need to enter the digits generated by the computer into your cellphones.

If you would like us to walk you through the process, please contact us: http://www.iogear.com/support
