USB to Serial Adapter Driver Installation The USB PDA/Serial Adapter (GUC232A) provides you with an external serial connector (DB-9 male) for use with computers, notebooks, and handheld computing devices that support USB. Below are the steps to properly install the GUC232A. For Windows 2000 and XP - Insert the Installation CD.
NOTE: If the installation CD is not available, you can refer to this link to download the drivers for different operating systems. http://www.iogear.com/support/dm/driver/GUC232A#display - Connect the GUC232A to any available USB port. The USB to serial adapter will be recognized, and the Found New Hardware dialog box will pop up. If the device was not detected, connect to a different USB port. If the problem persists, contact IOGEAR technical support.
- When prompted to connect online for the drivers, select No, not this time then click the Next button.
- In the next window, click on the option that states Install from a list or specific location (Advanced), then click on the Next button.
- Put a mark on the checkbox that states Include this location in the search:. Click on the Browse button then direct it to the CD-ROM location where the drivers are stored, then hit Next.
- Windows will install the selected drivers and after a while you'll see the Finish button. Click on it.
- To check if the device has been properly installed, right-click the My Computer icon > Properties > Hardware > Device Manager. The GUC232A will be listed either as ATEN USB to Serial Controller or USB to Serial Comm. Port under Ports. You can now start using your GUC232A with your serial device.
NOTE: If the device status state anything other than This device is working properly, you may need to reinstall the GUC232A. Go back to Step 3 and try again. If ever you are still having difficulty installing the GUC232A drivers, please contact IOGEAR Technical Support
For Windows 98SE and ME - Insert the Installation CD.

- Once finished downloading, extract the contents of the file to your Desktop. You need not install any third-party software such as WinZip or WinRAR since Vista has its own self-extracting utility.
- Connect the GUC232A to any available USB port. The USB to serial adapter will be recognized and depending on how your Vista computer is set up, will ask for the necessary drivers. If the device is not detected, try a different USB port. If the problem persists, contact IOGEAR technical support.
- Once Vista prompted you for the drivers, locate the Vista folder in your Desktop and install the necessary files. The wizard will give you an option to specify a location. Kindly browse your Desktop and look for the folder where you have extracted the files. Click on the Next button afterwards to finish installation.
- To check if the GUC232A is properly installed, click on the Start Menu or the Pearl icon, and then type device manager in the search box. Click on the Device Manager link, and look under Ports. You should see ATEN USB to Serial Controller in there. Double-click on the name of the device, and this will give you the device status. You can now start using your GUC232A with your serial device.

If you have OS 9.x and lower, you need to run the usb2pda.sit file. However, if you have OS 10.x, just run the GUC232A-Intel.dmg file. The said files will mount in your Mac desktop, and another window will pop up.
- Running the said files will extract osx-pl2303-10.4 for Mac OS X, while the driver for OS 9.x will show up with two files, USB-ATEN and PL2303G, both of which are Unix Executable files.
- For Mac OS X, just run the osx-pl2303-10.4 file and follow the on-screen instructions. It may prompt you to enter the administrator password during the installation process.
- For Mac OS 9.x and lower, just run the USB-ATEN file, and follow the on-screen instructions as well.
- Once the installation is finished, plug in the GUC232A to any available USB port.
- To check if the device is successfully detected by the system, set your Mac desktop to Finder mode, then click on Go > Applications > Utilities > System Profiler. Look for the USB header and under the USB Bus sub-header you'll see USB-Serial Controller. You can now start using your GUC232A with your serial device.
