Integrating something new in to a routine that you have been doing for a long time is scary, especially when that something new has so many new variables it can sometimes be hard to plan for. For teachers, adopting technology in to the classroom can be very difficult for multiple reasons from not being provided the proper instruction or technology to them being resistant because they are set in their ways. Technology can help students learn and flourish at a young age with technology that they will be using through schooling and work. Here are 3 reasons why the integration of tech can be difficult in a classroom.

Schools are not giving teachers the proper instruction on technologies provided or the technology runs too many risks for a classroom at this time.

Schools need to use technology that empowers teachers. Teachers tend to shy away from using technology because of the recourse it can have in the classroom, ideas of cheating and students IM'ing or losing their lesson to the excitement of having a technology item such as a tablet in the classroom. To help teachers become acquainted with technology in the classroom, schools and districts can use mobile apps that grade work or a database for teachers to hold their lesson plans. All technology in a classroom is on a learning curve and has to constantly be revisited but if teachers and schools are open then the possibilities are endless.

Teachers need to plan for technology in their lesson plan.

Teachers need to start lesson planning for technology in the classroom, if they plan out their class using standard resources, they will be confused and so will the students come time to use the tech in the classroom. Teachers can set aside time for students to do research on a tablet or to use an app that has flashcards on it. If teachers are prepared to use the tech then it will go a lot more smoothly.

Using online resources provided by the school or district.

Many schools have now integrated to a system where grades, schedules and communication between the schools and parents/ students are all on an online platform. Teachers who do not use this to its full ability are hurting the students. With these portals, teachers can upload notes from class, worksheets if students are absent or lose it; they can also upload grades so students and parents can constantly track their work. This also makes it easier for the teachers to communicate with parents about work or what is happening in the classroom.

Technology is constantly changing and so are our students, this means that teachers and students need to grow in to the use of technology in a classroom, together.
