IOGEAR’s New KVM Switch Enhances the Home-Computing Experience [01-14-2008]

Caters to audio and video buffs by supporting DVI resolutions and surround-sound systems

SAN FRANCISCO – Macworld Conference & Expo, booth S-319 – January 14, 2008 – IOGEAR today launched its new 7.1 surround-sound supported, 2-port Dual-Link DVI KVMP & MultiMedia Switch. The product enables gamers and audio / video enthusiasts to share a Dual-Link DVI display, USB keyboard, mouse and surround-sound system between two computers. Incorporated with IOGEAR’s Display Emulation Technology, the device supports seamless switching and consistent resolutions among computers with various operating systems by remembering the monitor’s optimum parameters. This eliminates lost settings when booting or alternating between CPUs. The switch can also pass through HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection) signals, enabling home entertainment fans to watch high-definition video on their big-screen TVs with surround-sound support. By providing console mouse-port emulation, the Dual-Link DVI KVMP & MultiMedia Switch instantly recognizes and supports the user’s mouse when switching between computers. Consumers also have the option of by-passing the emulation to protect programmable mice from losing their functionality. This feature is ideal for gamers with pre-set mouse commands who don’t want to deal with the hassle of reassigning their settings. “IOGEAR has consistently been an innovator in the KVM space, and the launch of our new Dual-Link DVI KVMP & MultiMedia Switch provides audio and video buffs with the support they need to enjoy high-definition movies and surround-sound in their living rooms,” said Miranda Su, vice president of sales and marketing at IOGEAR. “As the computer continues to become the key component in a home’s media center, we recognize the need to introduce offerings that enhance its use for both work and play.” The switch supports 7.1 surround-sound speaker systems and DVI resolutions up to 3840 X 2400. Its ability to independently switch between KVM, USB 2.0 peripheral and audio ports enables users to toggle separately between audio functionality, connected USB devices such as hard drives, scanners and printers, and CPUs. The product is currently offered in a 2-port (GCS1782U) model and compatible with all operating platforms. Priced at $399.99 (MSRP), the Dual Link DVI KVMP & MultiMedia Switch will be available in February 2008 from major catalog and online resellers, as well as select retail outlets. Other IOGEAR products on display at this year’s Macworld Conference and Expo include the company’s GearJuice family of portable charging devices, Powerline Stereo System and additional HDMI and Bluetooth devices.
