IOGEAR Launches USB Print Server~ Enables multiple users to share a printer from anywhere in the world [01-28-2003]

Business and home users can print images and documents anywhere abroad with virtually the same ease as if they were in their own office, with IOGEAR’s new USB Print Server (model GPSU01). The palm-sized print server allows everybody on a network to share a USB printer capable of printing standard or tabloid-sized documents. It integrates Internet Printing Protocol (IPP) to allow users to print from any computer over a LAN/WAN (Local Area Network/Wide Area Network) or the Internet by specifying the device’s URL. This unit also supports multiple protocols and operating systems. By enabling remote printing, IOGEAR’s USB Print Server eliminates the need for faxing images which typically arrive poorly rendered, while also delivering greater control to the document’s author. When emailing a document, recipients can often make changes before printing, but by printing a hard copy it prevents unauthorized changes from occurring. “Faxing can be slow and transmissions unreliable. The USB Print Server is a better alternative because it eliminates the need for a dedicated fax line and the costs associated with it,” said Miranda Su, vice president of sales and marketing at IOGEAR Inc. “The new USB Print Server puts an end to the restrictions of traditional printing, and enables users to print documents when and where they are needed.” At 2.25” x 2” and weighing two ounces, the USB Print Server is one of the smallest such devices on the market. It has a built-in Web management feature enabling users to configure, monitor and reset the printer via a Web browser. This eliminates the need to place a printer right next to a computer. IOGEAR’s single port USB Print Server can easily be connected to a network, allowing multiple users to share one USB printer locally or from across the Internet. It supports DHCP client and multiple network protocols, Telnet and Web management software. It complies with USB 1.1 specifications, and provides users with an auto-sensing 10/100Base-T port.
