IOGEAR Predicts the Death of PC Monogamy-Sees large sales increase in hardware switches that allow [03-10-2003]

Finding multiple PCs residing in a household is now commonplace, according to a recent survey by IOGEAR, Inc. Ninety-seven percent of the 414 consumers polled personally own two or more computers , showing computer fidelity is on the decline. Only 9% of respondents are PC monogamous. Ninety-one percent say they regularly use more than one computer - and 22% personally use four or more systems. The growing adoption of high-speed broadband was ranked the number one reason for home users to purchase higher-power computers, leaving older computers to gather dust. Frost & Sullivan also backs this figure by predicting that the number of multiple PC households will reach 40 million by 2005. The rise in multiple PC owners has prompted a surge in sales of IOGEAR’s KVM (Keyboard, Video, Mouse) switches, which enable users to manage two computers with a single keyboard, monitor and mouse. Older PCs can be used for less sophisticated applications such as word processing or data storage, while users can simultaneously access their faster system for tasks like downloading MP3 files. Beyond the economic benefits, KVMs free up desk space, save time and reduce clutter.
