Miniature Device Eases Growing Pains for Small Firms [03-24-2003]
IOGEAR, the connectivity and peripherals manufacturer, has introduced the MiniView Micro to help SOHO users add a second PC to their office quickly and cost-effectively.
The MiniView Micro allows users to control two computers with a single keyboard, monitor and mouse. It’s designed for anyone who’s invested in a new PC but wants to continue using their old computer without wasting valuable office space.
The compact switch provides access to multiple computers without a costly network setup. It also eliminates the expense of purchasing two sets of keyboards, mice and monitors (from $200 to $2,000).
A poll conducted by IOGEAR revealed that nine out of ten computer users have a second PC for storage, back-up or to carry out two functions at once (e.g. word processing and downloading an application). Thirty-five percent said that the main reason they needed more than one PC was because they worked from home.
“If you’re running a business from home, you’ve got to make the most of every asset. It’s surprising how many users leave a perfectly good PC to gather dust because of the cost, hassle and space required to run two PCs simultaneously. With this device, they can make computers work twice as hard for only $49.99,” said Miranda Su, vice president of sales and marketing at IOGEAR, Inc.
The compact switch measures 2.5” x 2.25” x 0.875”, the equivalent of a deck of cards, and weighs a mere 0.75 lbs. It works on most hardware platforms, with the majority of operating systems and can be installed in minutes. MiniView Micro (GCS62) is now available from all major catalog resellers, online resellers and selected retail outlets.
MiniView Micro comes with built-in six foot KVM cables so PCs up to 12 feet apart can be connected. Users can conveniently operate the switch with HotKey combinations from the keyboard.
