IOGEAR launches external USB 2.0 / FireWire hard drive [03-25-2003]
In response to the growing need for more storage space and faster download speeds for MP3 files, digital photos and computer games, IOGEAR introduces its Hi-Speed USB 2.0 / FireWire Combo ION hard drive.
Offering three connectivity solutions in one, the Mac and PC compatible drive includes FireWire (also known as iLink & IEEE1394), USB 1.1 and USB 2.0 ports. The device transfers pictures, music and files at speeds up to 400 Mbps (FireWire) / 480 Mbps (USB 2.0), 40 times faster than standard USB 1.1 connections. It is available in six hard drive sizes ranging from 20 to 120 GBs. The compact 2.5” and 3.5” external hard drives can serve as portable photo albums, video libraries, portfolios or backup file repositories.
IOGEAR’s Combo IONs are priced at $199.95 (MSRP) for the 2.5” version equipped with a 20GB drive and $179.95 (MSRP) for the 3.5” model equipped with a 40GB drive. Both are available immediately from all major catalog resellers, online resellers and selected retail outlets.

The Hi-Speed 7200 RPM hard drive works with Windows 98, 98SE, 2000, ME and XP systems, as well as Mac OS 8.6-9.0 and OS X or greater. It is also USB 1.1 backwards compatible.
