IOGEAR Introduces 8-Port KVM Switch with DVI-I and VGA Support [01-10-2012]

The 8-Port USB DVI Keyboard-Video-Mouse Switch with VGA Support (GCS1108) allows USB keyboard and mouse control of up to eight computers from one cascadable dual-video standard device.

Las Vegas, NV – International CES 2012 – January 10-13 – Central Hall #7917 – IOGEAR, a leader in convergence through connectivity products, announces the 8-Port USB DVI KVM Switch with VGA Support (GCS1108), which enables access and control of up to eight computers from a single USB keyboard, USB mouse, and monitor with support for either digital DVI or analog VGA with support for resolutions up to 2048 x 1536. Simultaneous support for both VGA and DVI is unique to the IOGEAR GCS1108.

Controlling eight computers from a single console / control desk is extremely valuable, but for those who want more, the GCS1108 is also cascadable up to three levels.  This means it can connect and control up to 512 computers at once, with a broadcast mode that allows commands to be sent to all computers simultaneously. The practical applications range from security and system update installations to more advanced computing activities.

The GCS1108 features two USB 2.0 peripheral sharing ports for external storage devices and/or printer and scanners. It also employs patented DynaSync technology to read and store a monitor's Extended Display Identification Data (EDID) ensuring optimal video resolution and refresh rate without syncing delays when switching between computers, or even after a reboot. This is a huge convenience, given how disruptive aspect ratio issues can be. HDCP connectivity is also maintained.

Switching between computers is easily accomplished by manually pressing the front panel push buttons, entering hotkey combinations from the keyboard or via the intuitive on-screen display (OSD) system. An auto-scan feature permits easy monitoring of activities on all connected computers and a two-level (Administrator/User) password authorization provides enhanced security protection.

"Our new 8-port KVM switch is especially unique because it supports both DVI and VGA, connections," said Bill Nguyen, senior marketing manager for IOGEAR. "The ability to mix and match DVI or VGA computers is exclusive to IOGEAR and adds to our impressive array of connectivity options."

Other key features of the GCS1108 include:

  • Supports both digital (DVI) and analog (VGA) video
  • Multiplatform support – Windows, Linux, Mac, and Sun
  • Independent switching of KVM and USB focus
  • Complete keyboard emulation for error-free booting
  • Broadcast mode – Allows you to send commands for security and system update installations for a more advanced feature solution
  • Two-level (Administrator/User) password authorization for enhanced security protection

The 8-Port USB DVI KVMP Switch - model GCS1108 begins shipping in March, 2012 with an MSRP of $799.95
